Project Overview
In December 2023, the Town of Wake Forest purchased 8.3 acres of land adjacent to Devon Square and E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road, with plans to build a skate park and pump track on the property.
In early 2024, as a requirement of obtaining grant funding for the project, the Town sought public input via two community meetings and an online survey. In late 2024 the Town received a PARTF (Parks & Recreation Trust Fund) grant in the amount of $500,000 to assist with building the facility. Earlier this year, after a publicly advertised Request for Qualifications (RFQ), Wake Forest hired New Line Skatepark Inc. to manage the design and construction of its first skate park and pump track.
Community Survey
The Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department is inviting community members to share their opinion on the design of the future skate park by completing an online survey.
Community members are invited to provide feedback on two design concepts, including what they like and do not like about each.
Available through Wednesday, Nov. 26, the survey takes about five minutes to complete.

I am writing to express my strong support for this project. I have two small children and a full time job and do not have the time to make it to the open house meetings, although I wished to show up and support the initiative in person. I loved going to the skate park as a young person and am excited about the idea of sharing that joy with my own children in the town where we live.

I wish to express my strongest level of support for this project! The benefits of outdoor spaces are limitless- they actively improve people's physical and mental health, improve an area's beauty, and make a town more attractive for new residents and businesses. The Town of Wake Forest is doing a great thing by building more public access space for people to enjoy outdoor recreation! Skating is an activity that does not have much room to be done legally in the Wake Forest area after the closing of the skate park at the factory. Creating a safe and regulated space for skaters to ride will keep them and bystanders safe. Thank you for your dedication to making Wake Forest more accessible for skaters!

More areas for pedestrians and civilians to enjoy the outdoors and engage in activities with the community? It’s a no brainer, we should for sure add this but keep all the natural land around it intact as we can as to not impose on the natural environment and habitat of animals that live there

Please preserve 50-ft wide (or more) forested riparian buffers along ALL streams on the site, including the ephemeral stream on the east side. The streams and pond in Joyner Park have already lost much of their protective forest over the past decade. Thanks!

I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed construction of a skate park, pump track, and basketball court within our town. As a lifelong resident of Wake Forest, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable growth and development of our community. This project represents a significant step forward in enhancing our parks system and providing much-needed recreational spaces for residents of all ages.
The increasing population and traffic in Wake Forest underscore the urgent need for safe, dedicated areas for skating, biking, and other outdoor activities. Currently, our town's infrastructure does not adequately support non-motorized modes of transportation, such as walking, biking, or skating. The absence of protected bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly pathways has made it challenging for residents to engage in these activities safely amidst the growing vehicular traffic.
The proposed skate and pump park, alongside the addition of a new basketball court, offers a solution to this pressing issue. By creating a safe and welcoming environment for skaters, bikers, and athletes, we can encourage physical activity, foster a sense of community, and provide a recreational outlet for both children and adults. This initiative not only caters to the existing demand among our residents but also aligns with our town's vision for a more inclusive, active, and connected community.
I commend the Wake Forest PRCR Department for recognizing the importance of this project and for seeking input from the community. It is a testament to the department's commitment to responding to the needs and aspirations of its residents. I believe that the skate and pump park, along with the basketball court, will make a great addition to our town, marking a positive step toward accommodating our diverse recreational needs and promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle for all.
Thank you for your dedication to improving Wake Forest's recreational amenities and for considering the voices of its residents. I look forward to seeing this project come to fruition and to the many benefits it will bring to our community.
